Waalid is an organization that is here to help you navigate essential resources to empower both parents and children in relationships. ‘Waalid’ means ‘Parent’ in the Somali Language.
Established on August 15th, 2019, Waalid has specialized experience in providing innovative support for our immigrant community who are overcoming a variety of dilemmas, not limited to single parents struggles, young parents, childcare, new Americans facing language barriers, etc. We craft individualized services and programs to meet the needs of our community.
Waalid understands that Immigrant Parents are navigating a variety of challenges caused by culture shock, new environment, and different upbringing compared to their offspring. These challenges have propelled the sense of panic and anxiety in many families. Resulting in further strain in the relationship between parents and their children. With these challenges, many parents are finding themselves wanting assistance and support. Waalid was created to address the needs of both the parents and their children, aiming to support, assist, and advise them in every step.
Waalid also focuses on our youth empowerment, mentorship, and education. In the words of Malcolm X “ Education is the passport to the future, for tomorrow belongs to those who prepare for it today.” Waalid understands that Immigrant children are facing unique challenges, challenges that their parents are unable to understand. This is why many find themselves lost and lacking support. Leading to a breakdown in communication, crossing wrong paths and a decline in their mental health. Waalid is committed to the betterment of immigrant youth and furthering their knowledge and opportunities.
Our specialized programs targeting both parents and children. We believe that a strong, connect and supportive immigrant community will develop in the heart of Minneapolis.
